Accountant / Head of Accounts
Description

The Accountant / Head of Accounts will be responsible for managing the company’s
financial operations, overseeing daily accounting functions, preparing financial reports,
and ensuring regulatory compliance. As a key player in our financial health, you will
provide strategic insights and contribute to informed decision-making that supports our
business objectives. This role requires a proactive, detail-oriented professional with
strong analytical skills and the ability to lead financial activities efficiently.

Responsibilities
  1. Financial Management and Reporting
    o Prepare and analyze financial statements, including profit and loss
    statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports.
    o Monitor financial performance, track budget variances, and implement
    corrective actions as needed.
    o Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for management.
  2. Budgeting and Forecasting
    o Develop and maintain budgets, forecasting future financial needs and
    assisting management in financial planning.
    o Evaluate and report on cost-control measures, identifying areas for
    improvement.
  3. Accounts Payable & Receivable
    o Manage accounts payable and receivable processes, ensuring timely and
    accurate payments and collections.
    o Oversee invoicing and reconcile discrepancies with clients and suppliers.
  4. Payroll and Tax Compliance
    o Process payroll accurately and ensure compliance with tax regulations
    and reporting requirements.
    o Prepare and file VAT, PAYE, and other statutory returns in accordance with
    UK regulations.
  5. Cash Flow Management
    o Monitor and manage cash flow, ensuring the availability of funds for
    operational expenses and strategic investments.
    o Identify and address potential cash flow risks.
  6. Audits and Compliance
    o Coordinate with external auditors during audits, ensuring compliance
    with internal policies and external regulations.
    o Maintain up-to-date knowledge of financial laws and industry standards.
  7. Leadership and Team Collaboration
    o Lead and mentor junior accounting sta , fostering a culture of integrity
    and continuous improvement.
    o Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including project managers, to
    ensure accurate job costing and financial tracking.
Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. ACA,
ACCA, CIMA qualification preferred.
Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in accounting, with at least 1 year
in a leadership role, preferably within the construction or landscaping industry.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Sage, QuickBooks, or
Xero) and MS Excel.
Knowledge: Strong understanding of UK GAAP, tax regulations, and VAT
requirements. Familiarity with construction industry accounting is a plus.
• Analytical Skills: Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen
eye for detail.
Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills, capable of
explaining financial information to non-financial colleagues.
Leadership: Proven ability to manage a team and work collaboratively across
departments.
